Indian motorcycles were manufactured from 1901 to 1953. In their early years they were the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. The factory team took the top three places at the 1911 Isle of Man TT race. And then there was Burt Munro and The World's Fastest Indian.

Since 1953 a number of attempts have been made to return the marque to production with only limited and short-lived success. Currently, Polaris is marketing a model called the Vintage Chief based on the 1940 original priced at $35,999.
