E F Hutton's Sea Cloud was the largest private yacht in the world when launched in 1931 as Hussar II (or V, depending on who you listen to).
When his second marriage ended in divorce four years later, that wife got the ship as well as an unassuming piece of real estate in Palm Beach called Mar-A-Lago -- now run as a private club by Donald Trump.
Marjorie Merriweather Post renamed the vessel Sea Cloud. After military service in WW II as a weathership -- during which time it became the first integrated vessel in the US Navy -- it was returned to Ms Post with $175,000 to cover refitting.
In 1955, she sold it to Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina -- aka El Jefe -- the bloody, tyrannical ruler of the Dominican Republic from the coup in 1930 until his assassination in 1961. (Fun Fact: Trujillo's family tried to escape the DR with his body on Sea Cloud but were captured.)
In 1979, Sea Cloud was relaunched as a luxury cruise ship hosting up to sixty-four guests catered to by sixty crew.
