On the right, 'Lia Fail’ -- the Stone of Destiny -- on the Royal Hill of Tara -- was said to let out a roar of joy that could heard all over Ireland when the rightful High King put his feet on it.
During the rebellion of 1798, United Irishmen camped on the hill but were attacked and defeated by British troops on 26 May 1798. The dressed stone on the left marks the graves of the 400 rebels who died here that day.
I have single-handedly created a famiy tradition that we are descended through my O'Connor Mother from Turlough O'Connor the last High KIng of Ireland.
Unlike the Princess Grace connection (q.v. http://tinyurl.com/pz7aa26), there is no one else who thinks this even remotely likely to be true.
